Port of IBMs AIX UNIX operating system to System z mainframes. First released as AIX/370 in 1988, and jointly developed with Locus Computing. Initially only ran as a z/VM guest. Replaced with AIX/ESA in 1991 that ran both natively, and as a z/VM guest. Support ended in the late 1990s after the introduction of UNIX System Services into z/OS.
