From the Vendor

FDRSOS is a cross-platform solution running on System z, which provides the ultimate in protection and disaster recovery for your enterprise open systems data.

Used in conjunction with dually accessible disk storage offerings from EMC and IBM (see below), FDRSOS can non-disruptively backup your open systems data across high-performance FICON channels to the z/OS host. The backups are hosted on the System z mainframe using high-speed tape, VTS or disk.

Client platforms current supported for backup and restore by FDRSOS include Windows, Netware, Unix, Linux (including Linux for z Series), VMware and z/OS UNIX Systems Services.

Dually Accessible disk storage

The following disk storage systems are supported by FDRSOS –

  • EMC VMAX® with EMC z/SOS (formerly Enterprise Storage Platform (ESP), dually accessible disk storage, and EMC TimeFinder™
  • IBM DS8700/DS8800® and z/OS Distributed Data Backup (zDDB), dually accessible disk storage and IBM FlashCopy™

Performance

FDRSOS backup and restore data never travels on the network, and therefore does not consume TCP/IP CPU resources. Everything is done at the logical volume level, and the data transfer is at FICON channel speed.
